Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
